Kyurene

Kyurene takes the shape of a bat-styled humanoid. Dark fur sheathes her arms and legs, red hair crowns her head, and a pink wrap drapes her frame. Oversized bat ears and broad leathery wings finish the silhouette. Whether she passes as a human or drops the disguise for her monstrous shape, she can draw her nails out into keen, slashing claws.

In her true form Kyurene is built for aerial assault, firing concentrated blasts of sound from her wings. Her retractable claws serve as close-range weapons in either guise. The heart of her mission, though, rests on a tampered cassette that seeds ordinary recordings with inaudible ultrasonic tones, so that anyone listening to the finished music has their energy quietly siphoned away for the Dark Kingdom.

Once Jadeite lays out his scheme for Queen Beryl, he sends Kyurene to Jam Records, the studio of a music company. Her plan depends on a dark-energy cassette that would lace any track cut there with hidden ultrasonic frequencies and bleed energy from listeners. The plot stalls immediately when Akiko Yanagi, who runs the recording team, snatches the tape by mistake, assuming it is a demo from jazz pianist Yusuke Amade.

Driven into hiding, Kyurene follows Akiko and watches her hand the cassette to Yusuke in the lobby. She corners him in an alley, but he escapes, and her failure earns a fresh death threat from Jadeite at a garbage dump. Desperate, she finally recovers the tape by ambushing Yusuke in a parking garage. Usagi and Luna interrupt the attack and see her shift into monster form before she flees back toward the studio. The three give chase, Luna knocks the cassette loose, and it slides straight into Usagi's hands.

Kyurene seizes Akiko as a hostage in a bid to trade for the tape, but Usagi flings it into the air so Yusuke can pull Akiko free, and Luna crushes the cassette under her paw. Cornered at last in an open-air concert hall, Kyurene pelts Sailor Moon with sonic waves cast from her wings. Sailor Moon hurls a microphone that catches the blast and amplifies it through the venue's speakers, turning the attack back on its caster. Left reeling, Kyurene is destroyed by Moon Tiara Action.
