Calling of the Shining Stars: Enter Haruka and Michiru

Crowded around a bank of pay phones, Usagi and her friends scramble for tickets to the International Music Festival, only for Minako to learn the show has sold out. Haruka and Michiru happen by with five spare passes, since Michiru is sharing the bill with the Three Lights in a joint performance. Elsewhere, Galaxia scolds Sailor Iron Mouse for failing to secure a single Star Seed, so the assassin slips into Tokyo, spots a concert poster, and reasons that one of the performers must carry a genuine one.

Onstage, Michiru accompanies the band on violin. Seiya senses a star-like radiance in her, and Michiru in turn catches the note of love running through their music. Usagi arrives just as the hall empties, and a sympathetic Haruka invites the tearful girl back to Michiru's dressing room. When Seiya turns up there as a fan, tension flares: Haruka bristles at the stranger and coldly sends her off, leaving Michiru to wonder aloud whether jealousy is at play. Usagi hurries after Seiya to apologize, nearly tumbles down a staircase, and is caught by the elderly conductor Mr. Garayan, who praises the sorrow and warmth in the band's song before stepping outside.

Iron Mouse ambushes Mr. Garayan and rips out his Star Seed, but it darkens to nothing, and he warps into the Phage called Sailor Conductor. Usagi becomes Eternal Sailor Moon and is soon pinned by the creature's flying batons until the Sailor Starlights intervene. Star Fighter's laser disarms it, Star Healer and Star Maker cut Sailor Moon loose, and her wand returns the man to normal. Grateful, Sailor Moon proposes an alliance, and the Starlights accept, but before Star Fighter can shake on it, Sailor Uranus strikes. She and Sailor Neptune brand the trio intruders from beyond the Solar System and therefore enemies, and the insulted Starlights depart. Neptune insists the harsh stance is meant to protect Sailor Moon. Afterward, Seiya offers Usagi a ride home, and when Usagi asks whether friendship can bridge such distance, Seiya answers that she already counts herself a friend.

Written by Atsushi Maekawa and directed by Takuya Igarashi, the episode first aired in Japan on July 13, 1996. It loosely reworks the closing stretch of Act 50 of the manga, though many details diverge: in the source comic Haruka also played, at the piano, Iron Mouse died at that same concert at Star Healer's hands, and Uranus and Neptune never assaulted the Starlights. This installment offers the only version of Star Serious Laser to use the attack's second animation, which folds in the Sailor Star Yell, and Sailor Conductor stands as the final Phage that Iron Mouse ever creates. Sailor Aluminum Siren and Sailor Lead Crow are seen here in full for the first time, still without any lines.
