I Want a Boyfriend: The Luxury Cruise Ship is a Trap

Nursing his string of failures, Jadeite is offered help by Thetis, a youma he cannot stand, who pitches a scheme to harvest human energy through a couples-only ocean cruise. When the voyage is advertised, Usagi is desperate to go but keeps losing the shopping-district raffle that awards a pair of tickets. Rei strolls by, lectures her about a guardian's proper priorities, then quietly uses her own psychic gift to rig the lottery wheel and claim the grand prize.

Because neither of them has a boyfriend, Usagi pleads to be Rei's companion, but Rei brushes her off and invites Ami instead. Refusing to be left behind, Usagi disguises herself as a photographer with the Disguise Pen and slips aboard before the ship departs. The lavish liner is only an illusion spun by Jadeite and Thetis, however, its true form an abandoned wreck steeped in dark magic.

Aboard, Ami and Rei grow glum as the sole guests without partners, while Usagi wanders into the eerily silent engine room and instantly develops a crush on a disguised Jadeite who ushers her out. Luna senses the dark power at work, and the pair spy on the villains. Thetis then throws a ballroom dance and drains energy with a mirrored disco ball, but the effect only reaches those in love, sparing the dateless Ami and Rei. Realizing the miscalculation, Thetis unleashes her crew, who are revealed to be magical golems.

Usagi becomes Sailor Moon just as the golems close in. Thetis hurls her out through a window and blasts her with seawater, but Sailor Mars incinerates the golems with Fire Soul, and together with Sailor Mercury she corners Thetis using Bubble Spray and fire. Sailor Moon finishes the youma with Moon Tiara Action. Jadeite moves in to kill the guardians, only to be yanked back to the Dark Kingdom by Queen Beryl, who is furious that he squandered another plan and borrowed her personal youma without leave.

As the illusion collapses, the vessel reverts to the derelict it always was and rescue boats arrive to carry the passengers to safety. Beryl's dwindling patience with Jadeite, sealed by Thetis's death, sets up the fallout that lands on him in the following episode. In the DiC dub, Usagi's consolation prize of tissues is swapped for bars of soap, and the crystal ball used to watch the passengers is redrawn as an early version of the energy-stealing disco ball.
