Shadow of Destruction: The Messiah of Silence Awakens

The final witch, Cyprine, drives crowds to Mugen Academy under cover of night and drains their Pure Heart Crystals in one sweep. When the inner Guardians move against her, she teleports them to her office and reveals she already knows who they are. A red glare interrupts the fight, resolving into Ptilol, Cyprine's twin, and together the pair form a single Witch bound by uncanny teamwork. They seal the Guardians in a pocket dimension where every attack is simply absorbed into the twins' staffs, making them stronger.

Adapting, Mercury shrouds the arena with Shabon Spray, then Jupiter and Mars pry the twins apart so that their next strikes land on each other, destroying both and freeing the stolen crystals. Elsewhere Kaolinite lures Chibiusa to Hotaru's home and abducts her despite Sailor Pluto and Tuxedo Mask trying to intervene.

Reunited deep inside Mugen Academy, the Guardians find Chibiusa captive and Hotaru possessed by the Messiah of Silence, the chamber dressed for a dark ritual overseen by Kaolinite and Professor Tomoe. A barrier blocks Sailor Moon from reaching Chibiusa as the Messiah tears out and devours the girl's Pure Heart Crystal. Usagi pleads with Tomoe to stop his daughter, but the professor no longer even comprehends love. Rather than becoming Sailor Saturn, Hotaru transforms into the monstrous Mistress 9, who destroys Kaolinite once she has outlived her usefulness.

The Guardians escape with Chibiusa as the collapsing school falls around them. To keep the crystal-less child alive, Mamoru links his own body to hers. Setsuna then tells the inner team that she will join Uranus and Neptune in killing Mistress 9, and though the others fear for Hotaru, she insists there is no other path to reclaiming Chibiusa's heart. The five set out for Mugen Academy braced to end Hotaru's life if they must.

The episode debuts Cyprine, Ptilol, and Mistress 9, and marks Kaolinite's second and final defeat. Several beats differ from the manga, where Cyprine and Ptilol wielded powers such as mind control and hailstorms, both were destroyed by Super Sailor Moon rather than by their own crossfire, and Kaolinite met her end after mutating into a fearsome Daimon. In the manga Mistress 9 also seizes Chibiusa's own Silver Crystal along with her soul.
