Cup of Reincarnation

Item

An ornate chalice fashioned by the Absolute Being to wind time back a full ten years with every use. Its charge is finite, however, so each rewind drains the vessel nearer to the moment when it can no longer turn the clock at all.

Appearance: large ornamental chalice with yellow trims, indigo glass, light blue stem
Limitation: finite power, does not affect Monarchs and Rulers

Overview

The Absolute Being shaped this vessel, granting it the lone power to drive time in reverse. Visually it is a tall, ornate chalice trimmed in yellow, its bowl made of indigo glass and its stem a soft pale blue. A single activation rolls the entire world back by ten years, yet the cup carries no limitless charge and can be drained to total uselessness once it has been called upon too frequently.

Function

Every activation throws time backward a decade, but the vessel's energy is capped and dwindles with each use. There is a notable blind spot to its reach: neither the Monarchs nor the Rulers feel its effect, both keeping their powers as well as their memories of the timeline that came before. All other beings are carried back with no awareness that any earlier history ever existed.

Notable Users

Crafted ages ago by the Absolute Being, the cup fell into the Rulers' hands once they slew him over his cruelty, claimed his throne as gods, and seized his instruments. Their opening bid to keep the human world from being razed by the Monarchs ended in defeat, so they spent the cup to wind a decade away and try again, only to learn that the world was doomed whichever side prevailed and that the chalice was wearing thin. As a final gamble they tore open gates, drowning Earth in mana so it might endure the war without another rewind.

Having brought down Antares, Jinwoo begged the Rulers for one last use so he could restore everyone the war had taken, accepting that none would recall him and that a failed attempt on its dying charge would ruin them all. The Rulers granted it, draining the cup dry and casting everyone ten years into the past. Jinwoo then felled the Monarchs alone and recovered the dead, his father included, within the rewritten timeline; even so, roughly twenty years on, gates resurfaced and unraveled the peace he had won.
