Chadwick Curtis

Two stitched scars, souvenirs of the battlefield, trail down the left half of Chadwick's face from brow to cheek and mark him out instantly. He is tall and carries an intimidating presence, with a slim face, pronounced cheekbones, and rectangular blue eyes ringed by dark outlines. Short blond hair rises from a sharp widow's peak, slicked back on duty and worn looser in casual settings.

The standard SSS uniform is his usual dress. Undercover assignments call for a black turtleneck beneath a dark jacket, finished with a flat cap, glasses, and black gloves.

Discipline defines Chadwick. He follows protocol, keeps his composure through interrogations, pursuits, and large-scale crises, and favors deliberate, controlled responses over impulse. That pragmatism carries a brutal edge: against suspected spies and traitors he turns to intimidation and torture without visible hesitation. In the field he weighs caution against urgency, calling in reinforcements rather than risking a reckless chase after Twilight and restricting information or personnel to limit exposure.

Beneath the stern exterior he watches over his subordinates, Yuri Briar most of all. He warns Yuri about overwork and repeated all-nighters, nurses him through illness, blocks him from wading into dangerous situations, and refuses to indulge his fixation on his sister Yor, telling him to back suspicion with evidence instead. Dry humor and understated sociability surface around colleagues: he drinks with coworkers, teases Chloe about missing Yuri, quips about fighting "obnoxiousness with obnoxiousness" when he assigns Yuri to keep their director Wilker occupied, and watches the personal entanglements around him with visible amusement. He respects Wilker's leadership yet openly questions some of his calls, including the decision to recruit Yuri in the first place.

Where Yuri turns emotional about Twilight, Chadwick stays professional, regarding the spy as a lethal, highly skilled target to be handled efficiently. The irony escapes him entirely: Twilight once impersonated him during an early investigation of Yor, and Chadwick later interacts repeatedly with the man under his Loid Forger identity, finding nothing suspicious and forming a rather favorable impression of Yor's husband.

Interrogation is Chadwick's specialty. As a counterintelligence officer he pries information out of suspected spies through coercive methods, up to and including physical violence, applied with clinical detachment.

His tactical judgment holds up under pressure. When Twilight infiltrated the operation surrounding Winston Wheeler, incapacitated Yuri, and fled through the sewers, Chadwick organized the containment effort and personally gave chase, later reassuring Yuri that merely wounding the spy counted as a major feat within the SSS. He also brings long experience in surveillance and covert investigation, from tailing targets to supporting infiltration work, always emphasizing operational secrecy.
