Extra Mission 1

Overworked by WISE's staffing shortage, Loid juggles bombings and briefings while his cover family waves him off each morning. An agent checking on Operation Strix reminds him to stay inconspicuous, but back at the apartment complex the neighbors are already whispering that Mr. Forger is never home, speculating about affairs or a lost job. Alarmed at the damage to his cover, Loid promises Yor and Anya an outing on his next day off, and since Anya happens to be drawing a penguin, the aquarium wins.

At the subway en route, a WISE contact ambushes the exhausted spy with a new task: recover a microfilm that a penguin at Berlint Aqualand swallowed before enemy agents can retrieve it. Loid resists until she lists the lives at stake. Inside the aquarium, the family bumps into the gossiping neighbors, and Yor invites them along, complicating everything. When a tour guide mentions the park holds over 200 penguins, Loid despairs at identifying the right bird, but Anya reads the flock's minds and telepathically flags a sickly emperor penguin with something stuck in its throat.

Loid knocks out a rookie keeper, borrows his identity, and dazzles the staff by memorizing every penguin's name from a skimmed file and feeding each bird its exact diet at blinding speed. He carries the ailing penguin, Parlie, away under the pretense of an infirmary visit. A stranger posing as a marine biologist named "Hurry Taylar" tries to take the bird; Loid smears the man's fake I.D., disarms him with a thrown bucket, and lets him flee rather than abandon the film. The fleeing terrorist runs past Anya, who grabs his coat and cries kidnapping, prompting Yor to kick him into the ceiling. With the film secured and the terrorist cell exposed, Loid rejoins the group hauling a giant penguin plushie, claiming he won it after many tries at a contest to name every penguin in the park. Anya, knowing he aced it instantly, silently calls him a liar. Loid plays the part of an average dad run ragged for his family, briefly dreams of requesting a long vacation, then remembers the stakes of his mission. Elsewhere, the unconscious rookie keeper wakes to an instant promotion, his boss declaring there is nothing more to teach him.

Neighborhood gossip about Loid's absences pushes him to stage a family trip to Berlint Aqualand, which WISE promptly turns into a microfilm recovery job. Anya's telepathy pinpoints Parlie, the emperor penguin carrying the capsule, out of a colony of hundreds. Disguised as a keeper, Loid extracts the bird, exposes a terrorist using forged credentials, and secures both the film and intel on the man's organization.

Yor "rescues" Anya from the fleeing terrorist with a ceiling-height kick. Loid repairs his reputation with the neighbors while gifting Anya the penguin plushie that later becomes Agent Penguinman. Debuting characters include the Forgers' neighbors, the WISE subway lady, Parlie, and the aquarium staff.

First printed in Weekly Shōnen Jump issue #32 of 2019 to mark Volume 1's release, this special was numbered Chapter 8.5 digitally and later reprinted on Shōnen Jump+. Volume 2 places it after Chapter 11, though the penguin plushie visible in Anya's room by Chapter 10 shows the story actually happens earlier. The material was adapted in Episode 12 of the anime, and its illustration may echo a color page from the Shōnen Jump+ series The Emperor and I.
