Torn over whether to make a break for freedom, Kaneki listens as Banjou urges him on while quietly questioning how far the man can be trusted. Talk turns to Rize's death, and Kaneki admits that his lie back at the coffee shop was meant to spare Banjou's feelings.
When he is introduced to Banjou's small band of followers, the group is elated to stand before a one-eyed ghoul. Banjou lays out the pecking order of Aogiri Tree: Tatara answers to the One-Eyed King, Noro holds the 11th ward for now, Yamori hails from the 13th ward, and Ayato was pressed into the ranks. After walking through the hideout's daily routine, they settle on fleeing toward the 20th ward.
At the CCG's main office, Koutarou Amon, Yukinori Shinohara, and Juuzou Suzuya answer a summons from Itsuki Marude, who presents what he calls the largest crisis on record and asks for their aid with the 11th ward countermeasures effort.
