Chapter 66

Moving through Aogiri Tree's ranks, the Anteiku group searches for Ken Kaneki and relies on Yoshimura's intelligence, expecting to meet both doves and ghouls at building five. Along the way, Kaya Irimi instructs Hinami Fueguchi in the acute hearing that ghouls possess: they can gauge an object's mass from the sound of footsteps, map their surroundings through echoes, identify materials by their tone, and even read a person's character from the rhythm of their sounds. Hinami strains to catch the noise of the isolated building where Kaneki and Yamori clash.

Inside that structure, Kaneki batters Yamori with relentless strikes until his captor is beaten down. He drives a blow into Yamori and orders him to count backward from one thousand in steps of seven. Kaneki then devours Yamori's kagune, and once finished he walks away, leaving the ghoul in a critical state.

The Anteiku group presses toward building five on Yoshimura's guidance. Irimi teaches Hinami the finer points of ghoul hearing. Kaneki overwhelms Yamori, forces him to count down from a thousand by sevens, consumes his kagune, and abandons him near death.

Named Removal (摘出, Tekishutsu), this Volume 7 chapter ends Kaneki's confrontation with Yamori. He leaves his defeated captor alive but in critical condition rather than finishing him off.
