Summary

Investigator Itsuki Marude verifies that the recruit in front of him truly is Hideyoshi Nagachika, then presses him about his reasons for answering the CCG's public hiring call. Hide describes how broadcasts covering the unrest in the eleventh ward first drew his curiosity, driving him to collect newspaper cuttings and assemble the whole picture on his own. Once he grasped how badly the organization was short on personnel, lending a hand felt like the obvious move.

He confesses that the untraceable tip about the Aogiri Tree hideout came from him. Amateur detective work had long been his hobby, and he made a routine of tagging suspicious people with concealed trackers before passing what he gathered to the authorities. That same habit put him on Yamori's trail into ghoul territory, where he slipped through the district cloaked in clothing taken from a dead ghoul. He apologizes for keeping the whole story to himself for so long.

Akira Mado and Koutarou Amon arrive, and Marude posts Hide to their unit as an assistant. When Katsuya Mabuchi voices doubt about the choice, Marude replies that useful talent is worth employing no matter its source, part-timer or otherwise. Introductions done, the fresh trio sets off for a Chinese eatery. Away from the office, Nishiki Nishio berates Roma Hoito for smashing crockery and pines for Touka, while Enji Koma preaches courtesy toward women.
