Summary

Standing over slain investigators, Furuta declares himself bureau chief and, annoyed at the interruption, orders Roma and Rio to finish the intruders. Urie deflects a kagune aimed at Iwao, who snatches a decorative sword off the wall despite lacking a proper Quinque. Iwao's strikes bite into Shikorae but leave no lasting harm against his regeneration. Roma joins the fray, is tackled off Urie, then severs Iwao's hand and turns his own blade on him, only for the veteran to seize her and hurl her aside.

Muttering that she cannot believe he would strike a girl, Roma takes a kagune slash across the middle and feigns death, then erupts with a huge kagune that Urie barely evades, recognizing the trick she once used on Shibashi. When she taunts him again he drives his kagune through her skull, dropping her. Iwao locks Shikorae in a chokehold, and Urie warns Furuta he has crossed a line by siding with ghouls, only to be told to look behind him. Certain it is a bluff, Urie is run through by several kagune.
