:re Chapter 135

As the office battle rages, the chapter opens Roma Hoito's past and names her the lone founder of the Clowns. Growing up parentless and alone, she survived on rotting scraps until, at seven, she killed for fresh flesh and never stopped. She slew ghouls and humans alike over feeding grounds or plain boredom, building a name that towered over other murderers, and came to loathe the pretenders around her, craving only to drown the world in chaos and grief. Nameless by nature, she swapped identities endlessly before the CCG locked her in Cochlea, where she found imprisonment amusing since her captors never grasped that she led the Clowns.

She recalls savoring Rio's screams under Shiki Kijima's torture, then the Second Cochlea Raid, when Aogiri Tree broke in and Tatara offered her a place in their ranks. Their aims clashed, his dream of a ghoul-ruled world against her taste for voyeurism, and their quarrel ended with Tatara accidentally setting her loose, whereupon Eto arrived to report finding an unstable youth bearing four kagune. Later, a haircut from Uta at his mask studio tipped Roma off to a one-eyed ghoul at Anteiku and a new investigator named Souta, and she readied herself for fresh entertainment.

Back in the present, following Urie's impaling, Roma reaffirms her creed, knits her head together, and transforms into her kakuja shape, the SSS-rated Dodgy Mother, as Iwao Kuroiwa holds firm against her. In the 24th ward the recalibrated Oggai resume their killing, cutting down residents while Mutsuki barks orders like a drill sergeant, demanding every ghoul die before the king returns and singling out Touka as his weakness. Yomo steps forward to buy Touka time so she can protect those still in her care, but as she nears escape she runs into a blood-soaked Hazuki, who mockingly pities her for hitting a dead end.

The chapter 夜がくる (Yoru ga kuru), The Night Is Coming, is the one hundred thirty-fifth of Tokyo Ghoul:re and ran in the combined issue 2017-36-37 on August 3, 2017. Much of it is flashback, tracing Roma from feral child to Clown founder and linking her to figures like Uta, Tatara, and Eto Yoshimura.
