Summary

At the CCG's main office, Haise Sasaki and Juuzou Suzuya join Matsuri Washuu to firm up their response to Nutcracker and the trafficking auction. Juuzou credits the Quinx for the intelligence, though Haise recalls that Matsuri once doubted the project and finds the sharp, elitist Washuu heir far more forbidding than his mild father Yoshitoki. Reviewing the findings, Matsuri ridicules the crossdressing scheme, which Haise briefly mistakes for praise, and resolves to send Mutsuki in alone as bait. Haise objects, but the irritated Matsuri brushes him off until Juuzou offers to go in as well, arguing that two operatives inside would serve better, and Matsuri grudgingly consents.

When Nobu Shimoguchi, Akira Mado, and Take Hirako arrive, Matsuri lays out that the S2 and Suzuya squads will command the Shimoguchi, Mado, and Hirako units during the Auction Mopping-up Operation. Afterward Haise thanks Juuzou, who shrugs it off and hints at someone he wants to see. Running into Shimoguchi and congratulating him on leaving the hospital, Haise is met with cold indifference.

Key Events

Akira advises Haise to give Shimoguchi space and describes the coming large-scale mission as high in both reward and danger. Knowing he cares nothing for promotions, she reminds him that the CCG is filled with people who have lost someone and worries that his tender nature could shatter him if he ever suffered such a loss, urging him to grow strong. Haise turns over the grim idea that keeping what one loves means taking from others. That night at the Chateau he reassures a quietly anxious Mutsuki about the plan, then accepts Shirazu's written testament and chats about Urie's imminent discharge. Elsewhere, Eto approaches Ayato Kirishima carrying word from Tatara.
