In the one hundred sixty-sixth chapter of Tokyo Ghoul:re, Koori Ui faces the rampaging Taxidermied Owl, which is revealed to be the beheaded Eto steered by a cross-shaped kagune. Kaneki and Ayato push deeper underground toward the Dragon's core.
Ken Kaneki and Ayato Kirishima press deeper into the underground cavern while the Taxidermied Owl butchers CCG investigators above with its blades and ukaku bursts. Take Hirako orders Koori Ui to engage the Owl while he and the Arima Squad hold back the V agents, and Ui finally sheds his reliance on Kishou Arima's memory to charge in.
Fighting Kaiko, Hirako's group hears him mock the Zero Squad as Arima's lapdogs and call Arima a traitor for once being the One-Eyed King. Yusa Arima splits Kaiko's head sideways. When the Owl's kakuja head is blown open, Eto Yoshimura is found decapitated, a cross-shaped kagune piece in her neck controlling her. Kaiko, revealed as a ghoul, reassembles his face, calls for a second round, and the Owl keeps slaughtering the investigators.
Ui abandons his dependence on Arima and takes the field against the Owl. Yusa strikes down Kaiko, who proves to be a resilient ghoul. The Owl is exposed as the beheaded Eto, her corpse puppeteered by a cross-shaped kagune. The slaughter of CCG forces continues.
