:re Chapter 168

Ken Kaneki and Ayato Kirishima tumble down the mound of sacs as the Dragon's golems burst free and swarm after them. Ayato uses his ukaku kagune to hold the horde back and orders Kaneki onward, insisting no one else can replace him, then mutters a fond insult about his shitty brother as Kaneki goes.

Marude reports the Owl's assault has destroyed half the investigators as Kiyoko Aura and Akira Mado reach the command room. Koori Ui, it emerges, was shielded from the blast by Juuzou Suzuya in his Arata armor. The Quinx and Suzuya squads brace for more, with Ching-Li Hsiao urging Yusa Arima to fight for the Sunlit Garden's people. When the Owl sprouts huge organic crosses to repeat its attack, Tooru Mutsuki pins it with his kagune.

Inside, an investigator tells Hide of a flute-like sound linked to the Owl, prompting Hide to deduce that its actions are scripted, since the V agents pulled back just before the strike. He tells Akira the creature is controlled from afar, and her analysis places the handler to the south. Hinami Fueguchi's sharp senses locate Donato Porpora, Uta, and Itori. As the Clowns seek a new hiding spot, Koutarou Amon intercepts Donato, who blocks with his kagune, while Renji Yomo confronts Uta, saying he never understood him but means to defeat him, and Uta calmly prepares.

Ayato stays behind to cover Kaneki's advance through the golems. Half the CCG force is confirmed lost to the Owl. Mutsuki restrains the Owl mid-attack. Hide deduces the puppet is remotely controlled, and Akira and Hinami trace the Clowns to the south, setting Amon against Donato and Yomo against Uta.
