:re Chapter 44

Performing an autopsy on Gagi and Guge, Akihiro Kanou learns that Rc pipes had been lodged in their kakuhou, cutting off their ability to produce a kagune. The Quinx operation intrigues him, since his own attempts have yielded poor outcomes, and he believes the technique could raise his rate of successful ghoulification. He deceives Naki with a promise that the pair will be brought back to life.

Haise Sasaki keeps hunting for anything tied to Koutarou Amon and the Eyepatch. At the Tsukiyama estate, Shuu vows to Aliza that he will rescue Yuuma, while she turns up online sightings that point to Shiki Kijima. When Shuu and Haise cross paths again, Haise bluntly asks whether the other man is a ghoul, leaving Tsukiyama unsure if he is being baited. Haise tries to soften the question, but gets no reply, and explains only that he wants to uncover his own past. Tsukiyama, dwelling on the hours he once spent enjoying Kaneki's company, departs without giving an answer.

Aliza's effort to save Yuuma collapses. Kijima seizes her, and before he kills her she leaks details about the Tsukiyama family in exchange for Yuuma's supposed safety. He beheads her all the same, sneering that she was a fool to believe Yuuma had ever survived.

Kanou discovers the Rc pipes sealing Gagi and Guge's kakuhou and lies to Naki about reviving them. Shuu promises Aliza he will save Yuuma. Haise questions whether Tsukiyama is a ghoul, and the two part with nothing settled. Kijima captures Aliza, extracts information on the Tsukiyama family, then decapitates her and reveals Yuuma is already dead.
