Summary

Akihiro Kanou greets Kurona Yasuhisa in his lab, remarking on her long absence and asking her purpose. Though she privately longs to kill him, she holds back and bares the misshapen form growing on her belly, demanding that he save Nashiro Yasuhisa. Kanou laughs off the request, saying he is no Dr. Frankenstein with power over the dead. Kurona insists her sister lives because she can breathe, eat, and speak, but Kanou coolly reinterprets each sign: the sounds are merely gas leaving the body rather than words, the apparent eating is Kurona herself drawing food through the openings, and the face she perceives is a projection of her own mind, the effect known as pareidolia. When Kurona resolves to kill him anyway, Kanou presents Okahira, a product of his Quinx work, curious to learn which of his two former experiments has turned out superior.

Nearby, Koutarou Amon lies on the floor as Seidou Takizawa berates him for trying to save him and charges. Amon admits he cannot keep pace with Seidou's kagune and struggles to evade, but Seidou leaps onto his back, punches his kagune through it, and drops him, branding him a failed creation exactly as Kanou had said. Amon recovers, arguing that Seidou is someone who must atone and that he understands Seidou's real strengths and weaknesses as a former CCG investigator. Seidou screams at him to be quiet, and as the two hurl themselves at each other with crossed kagune, Seidou impales Amon's chest.

Turning back to Akira Mado, Seidou repeats Amon's words about repentance and asks her who is in the right, but she gives no answer. A Scorpion 1/56 suddenly strikes his left eye.
