Seidou Takizawa yanks the knife from his eye with a curse as Mutsuki moves up to support Akira Mado. Asked whether he is alright, Mutsuki says he is anything but, though still able to fight, and he checks on reinforcements. Akira tells him that Suzuya Squad and the Quinx Squad are inbound. Mutsuki unleashes his kagune to buy time against Takizawa, in the process nicking Akira's cheek by accident.

Within Akihiro Kanou's laboratory, the doctor orders Okahira to strike Kurona Yasuhisa. Okahira surges forward at top speed and lands on her kagune, but Kurona severs one of the pipes, venting scalding steam that burns him. She recalls a past disaster in which failing pipes cooked several researchers alive and warns that history is about to repeat. Unfazed, Kanou looses another wave of Quinx and keeps demanding their opinions.

On another part of Rushima, Naki keeps watch over Miza Kusakari. She wakes and looks out at a field of butchered CCG investigators, then turns to Naki for reassurance, only to see him topple over without a word. As she weeps and grieves over his seemingly lifeless body, a tall, slender figure draws near.

Mutsuki arrives to defend Akira Mado from Seidou, cutting her cheek as he releases his kagune, and confirms that Suzuya Squad and the Quinx Squad are approaching. Kurona wounds Okahira by rupturing a steam pipe in Kanou's lab, and Kanou deploys more Quinx. On Rushima, Naki suddenly collapses in front of a distraught Miza Kusakari as a tall figure approaches.

Printed in issue 2016-42 on September 15, 2016, this chapter is part of the ninth volume of the sequel manga. Its Japanese title is Shūzu. The installment splits its focus across three fronts of the Rushima battle, tightening tension around Akira's rescue, Kurona's escape attempt, and Naki's ominous collapse.
