Sumire Hara

Hara usually gathers her brown hair up into a ponytail. Her eyes are small and brown, and she carries a fuller, rounded figure.

Among the calmer, more reserved members of the class, Hara tends to work in a supporting role, sizing up a situation and her own limits before committing. Her talent for cooking and looking after people has earned her a maternal reputation within Class E, and the fastest way to anger her is mocking her weight, as Ryoma Terasaka discovers when he calls her heavy.

That nurturing streak shapes most of her friendships. After a field-trip pairing she becomes a fixture of Terasaka's group, fussing over its members and treating Itona like its youngest child. She shares an easy, bartender-and-regular rapport with the usually guarded Meg Kataoka, helps the artificial intelligence Ritsu grasp what a motherly atmosphere even means, and trades manga talk with Yuzuki Fuwa. Her back-and-forth with Takuya Muramatsu over who ranks as the class's top cook stays good-natured, and she is childhood friends with Taisei Yoshida, whose tough act drops whenever the two run into each other near home.

Hara shares the title of best cook in Class E with Muramatsu, and her appetite runs enormous for her age, letting her put away almost anything at record speed, once even leaping to snatch bread strung from a rope. She shoots well enough to place second among the girls in marksmanship during training, and her domestic know-how doubles as craft skill, as when she rigs a hidden trap from yarn and needle in the survival war game.
