Great Ape Goku tears through Pilaf's castle with unstoppable fury. Pilaf, Shu, and Mai wake to the sound of their fortress being shredded and attempt to fight back by throwing bedroom objects at the beast, then fleeing to a plane. Their missiles and even a heat-seeking warhead only stagger the Ape momentarily. When Pilaf foolishly stomps on the unconscious creature's tail, Goku revives and hurls an entire tower at their aircraft, sending it crashing down.

Yamcha, carrying the injured Bulma, tries to escape the destruction, but the Great Ape picks Bulma up and begins licking her. Puar recalls Goku's weakness: his tail. Yamcha crafts a makeshift stone sword and strikes, but the blade shatters against the thick appendage. The Great Ape rampage delivers the saga's most intense action sequence. Pilaf's castle is reduced to rubble, and the sheer helplessness of the heroes against their own friend creates real tension. Yamcha's stone sword shattering against Goku's tail is a strong visual beat, and the actual solution, Puar becoming scissors, is the kind of simple creative problem-solving that makes Dragon Ball fights special.

The morning after carries surprising emotional weight. The group's collective decision to keep the truth about Grandpa Gohan's death from Goku is bittersweet. Bulma and Yamcha's spontaneous decision to date is charmingly logical: neither got their wish, so they settle for each other. Goku waving goodbye from the Nimbus as the instrumental theme plays is one of the saga's most heartfelt moments.

The Emperor Pilaf Saga concludes here, marking the end of the original Dragon Ball quest. Goku's decision to seek training with Master Roshi pivots the series from treasure hunting to martial arts, the format that will define everything going forward. The Bulma-Yamcha relationship begins, destined to persist through Dragon Ball Z before its eventual collapse. Goku's lost tail will grow back, ensuring the Great Ape threat lingers.
