Burgundy bandages define him. They cover him completely, sparing only his hands and his eyes, and everything else he wears goes on top of them. That layer includes a combat vest in dark gray, tight pants in light gray with knee guards in beige, black gloves cut off at the fingers, and gray dress shoes picked out in darker detail. A brown garter belt loaded with pouches rides on a belt at his waist, and a small sword sits on his left shoulder.

Underneath the wrappings he stands tall and thin. His hair is gray and falls straight, and his eyes, pale orange, sag underneath and tilt forward.

Nothing about the job appears to trouble him. He turned Katsuki Bakugo into a weapon against Katsuki's own friends without a flicker of remorse, and squaring off against a group of barely trained teenagers did not seem to register as unfair.

He is also careful to a fault, ringing himself with mummified objects so that an attack from any angle meets something other than him.

Hoyo fights well, and like the rest of Nine's crew he can hold a line against several opponents at once. His command of Mummification is precise: bandages wrap inanimate objects, those objects rise as red humanoid mummies, and Hoyo runs them as foot soldiers or as cover for his allies to move behind. More than a dozen answer to him simultaneously, which flips a numbers disadvantage in his favor almost immediately. Living targets are beyond his reach, but their clothing and gear are not, which lets him drive people around indirectly and turn them into shields or makeshift puppets. The result is a long-range fighter who is hard to close on and hard to outnumber.

When Nine's team reached Nabu Island, Hoyo took an urban district and met three U.A. students there: Toru Hagakure, Yuga Aoyama and Minoru Mineta. The three could not slow him: the puppets simply kept coming, and Yuga and Minoru burned through their own limits trying. Then Eijiro Kirishima, Denki Kaminari and Katsuki Bakugo arrived, a rougher proposition. Hoyo bound Katsuki and swung him at the other two, who were pushed onto the defensive and nearly wrapped up themselves. Katsuki broke his own bindings instead, drove Hoyo into a wall and detonated at full strength, which ended it.

His agility showed during the retreat, a chain of long backward leaps taken in rapid succession without a stumble, and even mid-withdrawal he drew his blade fast enough to take a swing at Katsuki. He is durable too, absorbing a point-blank discharge from Katsuki's Grenadier Bracers with only moderate injury. Tactically he favors attrition, grinding opponents down by seizing the resources around them and never letting up the ranged pressure, which on Nabu Island forced the students to spend their energy smashing his mummified stock before he fell back on trying to take a hostage.

Mummification, his Quirk, gives him control of his bandages and traps whatever they catch, though sufficient force breaks them. Anything inanimate he snares becomes a weapon he can operate. The bandages are standing equipment, and a short blade rides at his back for the occasional close exchange.
