Appearance

Molda numbers among the youngest witches living on the island of Skellig, and her violet eyes and reddish auburn hair lend her a girlish look that sits oddly against her sharp temper. She is usually found among the settlement's other apprentice mages, and she handles a flying broom with the practiced confidence of someone who has spent her whole life around magic.

Personality

Loud, prideful, and quick to pick a fight, Molda ignores the pleas of her fellow apprentices when Guts and his party approach the island, throwing escalating conjurations in their path. She goes as far as raising a wicker man, fully aware that the practice is both dangerous and outlawed. Rebuked afterward by the other young mages and by Gedfring, she merely tilts her nose upward in defiance.

Her hostility evaporates the moment Gedfring extends the outsiders a welcome. She finds life on Skellig dreary and quickly grows fascinated by the travelers' stories of faraway places. She even complains that it seems a waste for the island's witches to refine their craft in seclusion instead of putting such gifts to real use out in the world.

History

Molda lives in one of the mage villages of Elfhelm, on Skellig, alongside many of the island's other spellcasters. When Guts and his group arrive, she treats them as invaders and pelts them with summoned creatures, capping the assault with the banned wicker man, whose blaze Gedfring has to smother once he arrives to calm the standoff. Escorted back toward the village, she abandons her hostility and peppers the newcomers with questions about the lands beyond the sea.

After Casca's fractured mind is restored, Molda watches Schierke and Farnese put on a demonstration of magic for Gedfring and the assembled apprentices. Seeing Schierke struggle to get a broom off the ground, she offers to fly alongside her so the beginner can learn faster, and the two take to the air together. In flight they spot Gedfring, the Skull Knight, and Guts descending into the island's darker depths, and they decide to follow. There they meet Molda's teacher, an elder named Volvaba, who directs them onward to the stone forest of the dwarves and asks her pupil to return now and then to assist with her rituals.

Later she takes delight in watching Isidro turn the tables on the young mages who had tormented him. When Elfhelm is destroyed, Molda escapes aboard the Seahorse with the other refugees and asks Farnese to help tend the wounded. Carried to the Kushan capital, she is present when Daiba reveals his designs on the island's mages, drifts away in boredom when Gedfring's words to Rickert lose her interest, and waits in the capital's hall for Schierke to return to her body, recognizing the voice broadcast across the city as belonging to a certain arrogant man.
