Mule Wolflame

Small and boyish, Mule has fair blond hair and dark eyes and stands barely a hundred and fifty centimeters tall. His looks are fine enough that the pirate Bonebeard sneers about hawking him to a harem. Seventeen by the Fantasia Arc, he already carries the poise and pride of a trained knight.

Inside Griffith's reborn Falcon band, Mule's main charge is guarding the medium Sonia. A proud youth, he prizes personal honor above almost everything, and it is that honor that first drives him at the Kushan. He shows a more open mind than his rank suggests, able to see the elf Puck to the creature's own astonishment, and he treats Isidro with a plain courtesy that upends the boy's notions of arrogant nobility.

Mule first appears fuming as a Kushan column drags off his people's belongings. When his retainer Saritus asks whether he truly intends to strike the column, Mule demands to know if the man is a coward, telling his soldiers that standing idle while the invaders strip everything would disgrace all of Midland's nobility. Saritus counters that even Mule's own house is shut out of the royal palace and asks why the troops should spend their lives; Mule answers that his father and brothers fell defending that palace, and their deaths turn meaningless if he does nothing now. Saritus brings up a respected force said to be massing near Midland under the White Falcon, Griffith, but Mule believes the rumor that Griffith had been put to death under torture three years earlier. Unmoved, and refusing to watch the Kushan pen in helpless civilians, he calls the charge.

He fights well up close, as Isidro discovers when the two come to blows in Vritannis, and he knows the cruelty of war firsthand, schooled in the orthodox noble style and ready to kill for Griffith. In time he is folded into Griffith's reborn band, taking up his post as Sonia's guardian and standing among its ranks through the campaigns to come.
