Summary
Guts battles the Daka in the harbor while Serpico, Isidro and now Roderick shield the rear, all buying time for Schierke to finish her spell. Farnese watches Guts stand over heaps of slain Daka and moves toward him in concern, stopping when she spots another beast on a storehouse roof. It leaps to fall on him, but he impales it midair on the Dragon Slayer. She and Casca see the wolf helmet of the Berserker Armor beginning to form.
The Daka behind the storehouses press hard through the defenders, and Guts has gone still as the Beast of Darkness works into his mind. But Schierke's spell lands, and a burst of steam radiates from her. Speaking in a voice not her own, she has been possessed by a wheel-shaped astral being, the Wheel of Flame, an embodiment of hellfire kindled for cruel ends. It vows to destroy the Daka for her sake.
Schierke points her staff at a harbor waterwheel, filling it with fire and tearing it loose to roll over every Daka in its path.
