Hisana Kuchiki

Hisana looks remarkably like her younger sister Rukia: slight of build, pale-skinned, and crowned with short dark hair, though a loose strand across her face falls a little longer and more ragged. Her eyes carry a purple shade tinged with blue, and a soft, frequent smile lends her a delicate, gentle presence.

Warm, tender, and unfailingly courteous, Hisana speaks softly and treats those around her with quiet kindness. She is haunted by having left Rukia behind to save herself, judging herself unworthy of ever being called anyone's sister. Her love for Rukia runs deep, yet she simply could not manage to keep them both alive.

Roughly a century and a half ago, Hisana died in the Human World alongside the baby Rukia and arrived in Inuzuri, the seventy-eighth district of Rukongai. Unable to raise a child while barely surviving herself, she deserted the infant, a choice that gnawed at her ever after. In time she was taken in as the wife of Byakuya Kuchiki, and every remaining day of her short life went toward hunting for the sister she had left.

Five years into the marriage, illness claimed her on a spring morning. From her deathbed she begged Byakuya to seek out Rukia and keep her safe, but insisted he never disclose their kinship so that Rukia might simply know him as an older brother. Apologizing for leaning on him and for being unable to return his love, she told him their years together had felt like a dream, then slipped away. Her portrait later guides Ichigo Kurosaki to the district where she once lived.
