Mechanics
The technique unfolds in two blows. Suì-Fēng first drives Suzumebachi's stinger into her foe, opening a deep wound and branding the skin with a butterfly-shaped seal called the Hōmonka, or Hornet's Crest. Should her second strike land on that exact mark, the victim cannot survive; a far larger crest bursts outward from the two smaller ones and tears the body apart. What matters is not where the stinger enters but the point it actually touches on the surface. The crests linger only as long as Suì-Fēng wills them and cannot be shed by the target, though in her earlier days under Yoruichi Shihōin she could hold them for just half an hour, and a foe of overwhelming Reiatsu such as Sousuke Aizen can force the mark away. Should the stinger fail to pierce at all, no crest forms and the killing blow can never be set up.
