Rurichiyo Kasumioji

A small girl with green eyes and long blonde hair, Rurichiyo keeps her locks swept back beneath a brown band that usually carries a red ribbon and a pair of gold ornaments on the left. Her everyday dress is a formal pink kimono patterned with flowers. When she first slips into the living world she hides her face and spirit energy under a Japanese-style hat, and while occupying her Gigai she wears the Karakura High uniform with the blouse left untucked.

By Yoruichi Shihoin's account, her family ranks just shy of the four great noble houses, its standing a touch unusual. Rurichiyo behaves every bit the princess, expecting her wishes granted at once and throwing fits when brushed aside. Yet the self-absorption is not the whole of her; she frets over the trouble she causes others, regrets endangering her servants, and takes seriously her duty to shield the people who serve her, aware all the while that her own life is a target.

Kenryu finds her deeply stubborn. She also has a habit of speaking of herself in the royal plural and addressing others with the old-fashioned onushi.

Rurichiyo's mother died bringing her into the world, and her father was lost more recently to illness, leaving her at the head of the clan. Escorted by her guards Kenryu and Enryu, she settles beside Ichigo Kurosaki in Karakura Town and enrolls at his school, the pair keeping from her that the elder Gyokaku Kumoi wants her assassinated. She slips back to Soul Society for a friend's tea party, then chooses to return home alone to stop Kumoi's takeover, only to be abducted and swapped for a double.

After being recaptured and locked away, she is rescued through the efforts of Ichigo, Rukia, and her bodyguards, and following Captain Shusuke Amagai's death she resolves to keep her clan clear of such intrigue ever again. A later anime story finds her struggling to unite the family; inspired by soccer she saw among humans, she pushes for a kemari festival, clashes bitterly with Kenryu over it, and settles the dispute with a match that finally wins his and the commoners' support.
