KILL THE KING

After a vision of Yhwach's origin as the lynchpin of creation, Ichigo rides Orihime's shield up to the Greater Soul King Palace with his friends and confronts the Quincy emperor. Yhwach claims to have foreseen their arrival and explains that his triple-pupiled eyes belong to a true Quincy who can see all. Ichigo, wielding the dual blades of his new Zangetsu, launches a ferocious assault, overpowering Yhwach across the Royal Guard's cities and shattering his defenses with Getsuga Jujisho.

The apparent triumph unravels when Yhwach reveals his eyes had been ordinary the whole fight. Reactivating The Almighty, he foresees Ichigo's every move, dodges effortlessly, and beats him down into the Soul King's chamber. Yhwach discloses the Soul King's true name, Adnyeus, and the tragedy that the king foresaw yet chose to inflict on the Quincy, framing his patricide as the founding of a new world. As tremors rock the replaced Seireitei, scattered Shinigami and Sternritter feel the disturbance while Urahara races to build a Reiatsu gateway.

Yhwach burns away Yoruichi's binding strings and exposes the Soul King already impaled on his Reishi Sword. Ichigo pulls the blade free, but its Reiatsu seizes his Quincy blood and forces him to cleave the Soul King in half, killing him. Yhwach reveals he needed a being holding Human, Quincy, Shinigami, Fullbringer, and Hollow power to break the seal, and that Ichigo's entire path led to this moment. A vast wave of energy erupts from the corpse, and Urahara warns that all three worlds are about to cease to exist.

Ichigo initially dominates Yhwach before learning The Almighty was switched off the whole time. Yhwach reactivates it and crushes him, then reveals the impaled Soul King. Ichigo is compelled by his own Quincy blood to slay the Soul King, fulfilling Yhwach's design, and the king's death sends a catastrophic wave across the Seireitei that threatens the survival of every world.

This TYBW installment weaves together material from chapters 612 through 619 during the Thousand-Year Blood War. It reframes the fall of the Soul King as the fruit of Yhwach's foresight and Ichigo's manipulated destiny. The anime greatly expands the two-stage battle and reorders several reveals, including Yoruichi naming her armament and the reactions in Karakura Town. Kotoba ni Sezu Tomo opens the episode and Monochrome closes it.
