Prelude to the Apocalypse, The Arrancar's Attack

Ichigo Kurosaki returns home withdrawn, haunted by his inner Hollow, whose voice now taunts him openly and vows to devour him a little more each day. His unease deepens when Karin corners him and admits she knows he is a Shinigami. At the same time, researchers in Soul Society detect two powerful presences landing in a Karakura Town park, and Captain-Commander Yamamoto is told that two fully developed Arrancar, Yammy Llargo and Ulquiorra Cifer, have arrived.

Feeling the enormous pressure, Ichigo slips into his Shinigami form and leaves. At the crater, Yammy unleashes Gonzui, ripping the souls from hundreds of nearby humans, and dismisses the survivors as trash while Ulquiorra explains only three humans in the world are worth killing. Yasutora Sado intercepts Yammy's kick aimed at Tatsuki, but the Arrancar mangles his Fullbring arm with a single blow. Orihime shields Tatsuki, heals Sado's arm with Sōten Kisshun, and resolves to drive the enemy off without leaning on Ichigo, only for Yammy to crush Tsubaki and prepare to erase her. Her attack fails, and as Yammy lunges, Ichigo appears at last, halting the Arrancar's hand with the tip of Zangetsu.

Ichigo's inner Hollow speaks to him directly, escalating the threat of possession. Karin reveals she knows Ichigo is a Shinigami. Ulquiorra and Yammy arrive in Karakura Town, and Yammy drains hundreds of souls with Gonzui. Sado's Fullbring is ruined protecting Tatsuki, and Ichigo appears just in time to save Orihime from Yammy.

Episode 113 adapts portions of chapters 190 through 192 in the Arrancar arc, opening with Rolling Star and closing with Sakura Biyori. Yammy's mauling of Sado's arm was toned down from the manga, and a closing sketch shows Byakuya surprising Renji with a rare joke about cutting his own hair with Senbonzakura.
