The Person with the Unknown Ability! Orihime is Targeted

A weeping Mouthless Tōjū, abandoned and left to die, is drawn toward a sudden light. In the Human World, a series of nighttime attacks on schoolgirls, each carrying a phone with a pink bear charm, coincides with the arrival of transfer student Kyōko Haida at Karakura High School. Urahara, Ichigo, and Rukia suspect an unstable Tōjū is behind it, since a Zanpakutō Spirit preying on Humans is a serious matter. Kyōko proves uncannily gifted at studies and sports, and is secretly the one striking the victims with a double-bladed sword.

When Kyōko is hurt during a basketball game, Orihime escorts her to the nurse and shields them both from a falling flower pot with Santen Kesshun. Kyōko declares Orihime is "special" and worthy of her friendship because they share hidden powers, but Orihime gently rejects the label. Kyōko's bitterness surfaces through a memory of Mai Suzuki, the one friend she trusted, who came to fear her uncanny predictions, called her abnormal, and drove her away. The Mouthless Tōjū exploits that wound, insisting no one can be trusted and urging Kyōko to unleash her buried desire for revenge until the girl's eyes turn yellow.

Possessed, Kyōko corners Mai on a rooftop but keeps resisting the killing blow, and her refusal lets the Tōjū seize her body and manifest its true form. Orihime arrives as Ichigo blocks the Tōjū's claws with Zangetsu and Rukia carries Mai to safety, noting the Reiatsu felt strange because it was fused to a Human. Sensing Kyōko still fighting inside as a small blue flame, Orihime refuses the Tōjū's offer to trade Kyōko's freedom for her own body, arguing that owning another person is a delusion. The Tōjū, herself despised and discarded by her master, rejects this and attacks. Orihime uses Sōten Kisshun to pry Kyōko loose, leaving the Tōjū exposed for Ichigo's Getsuga Tenshō. Afterward, with Mai's memory wiped by Rukia's Kikanshinki, Kyōko and Orihime walk home as friends.

A Mouthless Tōjū possesses the troubled transfer student Kyōko Haida, driving the attacks on local girls and steering her toward revenge on her estranged friend Mai. Orihime's compassion keeps Kyōko fighting the possession, and her Sōten Kisshun uniquely separates the fused Human from the Zanpakutō Spirit so Ichigo can destroy the exposed Tōjū with Getsuga Tenshō. Rukia erases Mai's memory of the ordeal, and Kyōko and Orihime form a genuine friendship. The Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book segment reveals Chōjirō Sasakibe's Gonryōmaru manifested out of frustration that its owner never stands out.

An anime-only episode of the Beast Swords arc, on screen as the Tōjū Campaign, it adapts no manga chapters. It aired in Japan on March 9, 2010, and in English on July 8, 2012, opening with Anima Rossa and closing with Tabidatsu Kimi e. Orihime's defensive techniques Santen Kesshun and Sōten Kisshun, both part of her Shun Shun Rikka, are central to the resolution.
