The Swung-Down Edge! The Moment of Ruin

Ichigo Kurosaki activates Tensa Zangetsu and chases Jin Kariya across the pavilions, but Kariya casually turns aside his strikes and hurls him through stone towers with blasts of wind. Elsewhere, Uryu Ishida guides an exhausted Ran'Tao through the Seireitei, where Orihime Inoue and the others rejoin them. Ran'Tao halts Hitsugaya and Rangiku to reveal a graver danger than the Jokaisho energy inside Kariya: dozens of the same Reishi devices lie sealed across the Seireitei, and detonating Kariya's could set off a catastrophic chain reaction. She hands Hitsugaya a map before collapsing.

On Sokyoku Hill, the gravely wounded Maki Ichinose intervenes, first attacking Ichigo, then turning his blade on Kariya. Ichinose confesses he once served Kariya because he saw the late Kenpachi Kiganjo in him, and he begs Kariya to use his power to rebuild the Seireitei rather than destroy it. Kariya effortlessly overpowers Ichinose, drives a fist of compressed wind through his chest, and kills him, coldly dismissing every Bount as a mere pawn.

Enraged, Ichigo faces Kariya as the latter summons his Doll, Messer, raising a towering tornado. Hitsugaya relays Ran'Tao's warning to the captains, mobilizing the Gotei 13 to reseal the scattered Jokaisho, while Rukia Kuchiki wakes and asks Renji to carry her to the execution grounds. Ichigo and Kariya loose their opposing techniques at each other as the battle escalates.

Ichigo begins his final battle against Kariya using his Bankai. Ran'Tao reveals that many additional Jokaisho lie hidden and sealed throughout the Seireitei and could chain-react. Maki Ichinose turns against Kariya and urges him to rebuild rather than destroy the Seireitei, only to be killed and dismissed as a pawn. Kariya summons his Doll, Messer. Yamamoto mobilizes the Gotei 13 to reseal the Jokaisho, and Rukia asks Renji to bring her to the Sokyoku.

The anime-exclusive episode has no manga source and falls within the Bount Assault on Soul Society arc, airing one hundred seventh in the series with the opening Rolling Star and the ending Baby It's You. A closing Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book segment follows Kon as he discovers the Tenth Division barracks empty. The staff noted an error in which Ichigo's Bankai Reiatsu appears the same light blue as his Shikai rather than black outlined in red.
