Through the Crumbling Forest, a Million Menos

Ashido's mask shatters as he shields Rukia from Vecuness, and the two land amid a crowd of Menos Grande. Determined to make up for the injury he took protecting her, Rukia meets Vecuness head-on, dodges his lashing talons, and seals him inside a towering pillar of ice with her Shikai before it splinters and destroys him. With the threat gone, the Menos lose interest and drift away, leaving Ashido to mourn the last relic of his fallen comrade. Rukia gently urges him to return to Soul Society, but he insists on choosing his own road. Nearby, Ichigo, Sado, Uryu, Renji, and Bawabawa reach a clearing and pick up the trail of the captured Arrancar.

The group is lured into a trap: Parateraul holds Nel, Pesche, and Dondochakka hostage atop a cliff, backed by a mob of Menos firing Ceros. He reveals that the guardian Teres Holcan wants Ashido for himself. Uryu manifests his bow and rains arrows down to break the ambush, letting Ichigo and Renji snatch the hostages to safety. Elsewhere, Teres corners Rukia and Ashido, forcing Ashido into the duel he has awaited for so long, a fight he frames as his final duty in the forest.

Two battles unfold at once. Ichigo trades blows with the iron-skinned Parateraul, eventually dispersing his Cero with a Getsuga Tenshō that engulfs him, while Sado, Uryu, and Renji thin the Menos ranks. Against Teres, Ashido weaves through the guardian's whipping tail and back spikes, severs an arm, then survives a point-blank Cero to press the attack. When Teres burrows his tail to strike from below, Rukia freezes both the spikes and the guardian solid, and Ashido shatters him with a single blow. Rukia heals Ashido's wounded leg, and the reunited group learns the forest's exit lies through a gap high in the cliff wall.

As they climb toward the light on Bawabawa's back, a recovered Parateraul returns with fresh Menos to block their escape, forcing Ashido to deflect volleys of Cero with the large mask on his coat. One ricochet cracks the ceiling, collapsing the passage and cutting Rukia off from him. Ashido runs Parateraul through, then turns away and leaps back into the crumbling forest, choosing to stay behind as the rocks seal the way.

Bursting free into the moonlit desert, the group lands hard alongside the Arrancar, who cheer that Las Noches is now close. Rukia quietly admits she could not bring herself to tell Ashido that fellow Shinigami had sided with the Hollows and the Hōgyoku after his centuries of isolation, and she silently promises to return for him one day. Ichigo proposes stealing the Hōgyoku from Aizen on top of saving Orihime. In her white outfit within Las Noches, Orihime is informed by Ulquiorra that her friends have entered Hueco Mundo, and the episode ends as Ichigo and Renji smash into the fortress wall. This is an anime-only installment; the wiki notes Ashido's arc was originally drafted for the manga before Tite Kubo cut it for pacing.
