Too Early to Win, Too Late to Know

A flashback set over a millennium ago shows Ichibe'e Hyōsube visiting Yhwach in the Lichtreich capital to offer a non-aggression pact between Soul Society and the Quincy empire. The talk sours when Ichibe'e reveals the Soul King is the one who split the once-unified worlds and seeded the fear of death. Enraged by the suffering he perceives, Yhwach opens his second pupils to see everything, but Ichibe'e counters by summoning a phantom of the Soul King's own left hand that engulfs him and seals his eyes shut. Ichibe'e departs, warning that Yhwach's vision will never fully return until his death. Yhwach, alone, decides he will remake the rotting world and end the Soul King's humiliation.

In the present, Yhwach stands before the palace with Haschwalth and Uryu as Senjumaru Shutara greets him with a dozen Divine Soldiers. Below in the relocated Seireitei, Ganju Shiba barges into Urahara's hidden lab aboard Bonnie, insisting the group cannot storm the palace without him and his map. He climbs into the replica Tenchūren, which launches skyward in a wild zig-zag that draws stunned looks from Shinigami and Sternritter across the battlefield.

Senjumaru's Divine Soldiers cut down Yhwach's Soldat, but their blades keep bending away from him. Sternritter Nianzol Weizol reveals his Schrift, The Wind, which forces every foe he senses to warp around his body, and he splits Divine Soldiers in two with a fingertip. Senjumaru answers by secretly retailoring his robe mid-fight; spikes erupt from within it and kill him instantly. Yhwach then calls up his Schutzstaffel, and Gerard, Pernida, and Lille tear through the platform, with Lille blowing a hole through Senjumaru's head and shooting down the cities before them. But it is all revealed as an illusion: the surroundings peel away as fabric to expose a false palace built to lure the invaders, an unharmed Senjumaru, and Kirio Hikifune's Cage of Life growing from her Reiatsu.

With the Wandenreich caged, the full Royal Guard reveals itself. Ōetsu Nimaiya drops in, draws the too-sharp failed blade Sayafushi, and cuts down Gerard, Lille, Pernida, and Askin almost faster than the eye can follow, deflecting Lille's arrows with perfect angling. Cornered, Yhwach throws his Medallion beyond the branches, and Uryu's Antithesis swaps his position with it, letting him escape the cage and rise toward Ichibe'e.

Inside the replica Tenchūren, Ganju admits he has never actually visited the palace and only repeats what Kūkaku told him. Ichigo's group debates Yhwach's aim to replace the Soul King, and Orihime notes how the situation echoes their long-ago rescue of Rukia, wondering if Uryu, whose eyes now show Blut Vene-like veins, will return with them. Ichigo firmly declares he will bring Uryu back. As Yhwach hovers before him, Ichibe'e rises with a grin and warns that saying his name so lightly again may cost Yhwach his voice. The episode expands the ancient Yhwach-Ichibe'e confrontation well beyond the manga and reworks several details, including how Yhwach escapes the cage using Antithesis rather than Auswählen.
