Summary

Struck from behind by one of Yammy's Bala, Urahara is buried in dust while Yammy gloats about the technique's blistering speed. Luppi, certain his rival has killed the shopkeeper he wanted for himself, turns back to Rangiku, Ikkaku, and Yumichika, still bound in the tentacles of his Resurrección. His taunting costs him: his frozen tentacle ends give away that Hitsugaya has quietly prepared behind him with Bankai active. Explaining that his ice weapon reforms endlessly so long as water is near, Hitsugaya conjures towering pillars and crushes Luppi within Sennen Hyōrō, shattering his eight arms.

Urahara, very much alive, reappears behind a stunned Yammy. He reveals his secret, a portable inflatable Gigai decoy that let him dodge the barrage, and demonstrates he has studied the Bala's Reishi and Yammy's muscle movements well enough to counter it at will, driving him back with Benihime. Across town, a heavily wounded Ichigo crashes down before Grimmjow, whose kicks send him hurtling through houses. When Ichigo's Hollow mask crumbles instead of forming, Grimmjow pins his sword arm and charges a point-blank Cero.

Key Events

Rukia intervenes, freezing Grimmjow's hand and legs and engulfing him in an icy wave, then works to free Ichigo's arm. Grimmjow breaks loose and seizes her by the head to fire another Cero, but a sudden blow knocks his arm aside. Shinji Hirako drops in, complaining about being pulled into a Shinigami fight, and when Grimmjow presses the attack, Shinji dons his Hollow mask and matches him blow for blow through the air. He charges a Cero of his own, and Grimmjow counters at the last instant to blunt the blast. As an enraged Grimmjow moves to release his Resurrección, Ulquiorra grabs his arm and declares their mission complete.

Notes

Negación beams sweep down and lift Grimmjow, Ulquiorra, Yammy, Wonderweiss, and a freed Luppi back toward Hueco Mundo, each vowing to settle scores next time. Ulquiorra senses the trace of Ichigo's new Hollow power but dismisses it as meaningless, declaring the day belongs to the Arrancar as the sun sets, while Orihime stands alone in the Dangai. The Arrancar Encyclopedia segment has Tōsen cut in to explain that Wonderweiss is the product of temporarily fusing the Hōgyoku with a captain-level Reiatsu. The wiki records several censorship edits toning down blood and various staging changes from the manga.
