With Sado down and unconscious, Orihime refuses to keep waiting for rescue and faces Yammy alone, buying time with her shields and a healing power strange enough to unnerve Ulquiorra. Her lone offensive strike is swatted aside, but Ichigo at last arrives and releases his Bankai to answer for his friends.
A brief flashback shows Sado begging Orihime to carry the survivors away, since only she can mend the wounded. In the present, Ulquiorra pronounces her trash, but Orihime throws up Santen Kesshun to catch Yammy's jabbing finger and rises unshaken, then turns Soten Kisshun on Sado's mangled arm, a restoration so unusual that Ulquiorra reads it not as healing but as some reversal of space and time he has never seen.
Refusing to keep leaning on a clearly troubled Ichigo, Orihime resolves to drive the intruders off herself and looses Tsubaki in Koten Zanshun, only for Yammy to swat the strike aside with a bare palm and shatter him. When Yammy suggests tearing off her limbs and hauling her to Aizen while Ulquiorra instead orders her death, Ichigo's blade suddenly halts the giant's hand. Apologizing for his lateness and telling Orihime none of the harm is her fault, Ichigo releases his Bankai, Tensa Zangetsu.
Orihime chooses to fight rather than wait to be rescued. Her healing technique visibly unsettles Ulquiorra. Yammy shrugs off Koten Zanshun with a single hand. Ichigo finally arrives and enters Bankai.
