Words Just Don't Like You

Mayuri and Nemu Kurotsuchi hold open the Garganta for Retsu Unohana and Ichigo Kurosaki, sketching out how the pair can cross back to the living world. When Ichigo remarks that Mayuri resembles Kisuke Urahara, the captain bristles and swears to fill him with terror once the war ends, with Nemu promising to help arrange it. Mayuri rejoins Byakuya, explaining that the corpses littering Hueco Mundo interest him more than anything in the living world for now, and that he can return to study them at leisure after the fighting.

Along the path, Unohana asks about Ichigo's earlier encounter with Aizen atop Sōkyoku Hill. Ichigo recalls being utterly powerless even before any release, and Unohana tells him that is actually fortunate. She lays out the nature of Aizen's Kyōka Suigetsu and stresses that Ichigo alone falls outside its flawless hypnosis, making him their single decisive advantage, one they cannot afford to lose. Back in Hueco Mundo, Kenpachi hacks off Yammy's fingers and scales the arm to strike at his face, while Byakuya observes that Mayuri sounds oddly sure of Ichigo's victory. Mayuri denies meaning any such thing as Ichigo resolves that if he truly is the only one who can defeat Aizen, then he will.

Unohana and Ichigo set off through the Garganta toward the living world, and Unohana reveals that Ichigo is the sole person untouched by Kyōka Suigetsu's hypnosis, the one edge that can win the war. Kenpachi keeps up his assault on Yammy in Hueco Mundo, and Ichigo steels himself to end Aizen.

The fourth chapter of volume 44, VICE IT, it was adapted into episode 288, The Final Trump Card! Ichigo, Towards the Decisive Battle. The chapter frames Ichigo's immunity to Aizen's illusions as Soul Society's one true hope.
