Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto destroys Wonderweiss Margela, only to learn the corpse is primed to release the sealed flames of Ryūjin Jakka. His sacrifice to contain the blast costs him dearly and clears the path for Ichigo Kurosaki to strike.
Yamamoto's finishing blow bursts Wonderweiss apart, and as the fragments fall over Fake Karakura Town he senses the creature's feelings still lingering and condemns Aizen's cruelty. Aizen deflects the charge, arguing he merely gave purposeless Hollows a reason to exist, and throws the accusation back at the man who shattered Wonderweiss' soul. Dismissing this as petty talk, Yamamoto is warned that his refusal to listen has blinded him: Extinguir was built solely to seal Ryūjin Jakka, trapping its fire inside the blade, yet a great deal of flame had already broken loose.
Aizen asks where all that loosed fire has gone, and Yamamoto realizes the corpse is about to detonate. Wonderweiss erupts, and when the smoke lifts the commander is seen having flung himself onto the body to smother most of the blast. Aizen thanks him, since an unchecked explosion would have torn open the barrier sealing Fake Karakura and ravaged a far wider area, then praises him as the living history of Soul Society before moving to end his life. Yamamoto instead seizes the traitor's feet, calls him a fool once more, and hurls Hadō 96 at him. A pillar of flame swallows Aizen, and though he staggers free, a Hollowfied Ichigo immediately falls upon him.
