The news that Ginjō once held the first substitute post still hangs in the air when Hitsugaya prompts Ichigo to recall the speech Jūshirō Ukitake gave along with the badge, a reminder that the Soul Society grants such passes only to Humans judged useful to the living world. Hitsugaya adds that the entire system exists because of Ginjō. Byakuya waves the history aside for later, urging everyone to focus on the enemy at hand, while Ginjō grumbles that seizing Ichigo's power is the only reason he is still breathing.

Not far off, Orihime Inoue weeps, unsettled by Ichigo's earlier tears. She and Yasutora Sado rush in expecting to find the divisions opposing him, only to see them fighting at his side. The contradiction rattles their forged recollections of Shūkurō Tsukishima, who slips in behind the pair and layers on fresh false memories to deepen their bewilderment. Isshin and Urahara knock both of them unconscious before the confusion can spread.

The rest of Xcution then arrives and protests that Ginjō kept everything he took, demanding a share, with Riruka the sole exception. Ginjō answers by slashing each of them, distributing the stolen strength, and as the smoke clears the Fullbringers stand visibly stronger.

Hitsugaya explains that the substitute-badge system was created because of Ginjō. Orihime and Sado's altered memories begin to unravel until Tsukishima reinforces them, prompting Isshin and Urahara to subdue the two. Ginjō divides Ichigo's absorbed power among the other Fullbringers, enhancing their abilities.
