Once Tsukishima falls, the injuries afflicting Orihime Inoue and Yasutora Sado begin to stabilize. Kisuke Urahara entrusts the pair to Tessai Tsukabishi and departs for the fight, telling Isshin Kurosaki to hold back; Ichigo, he reasons, is bound to hear the truth from Ginjo no matter what, and that outcome is acceptable.

At the battlefield, Ichigo brushes off Ginjo's words as a ploy, and Uryu Ishida suspects the Fullbringer is angling to recruit him. Ginjo waves this away and taunts Uryu to loose an arrow, then rounds on the subject of the Substitute Shinigami Badge. It is handed out, he claims, not only to those who serve Soul Society, but to anyone worth monitoring, a device meant to observe its bearer and hold his Reiatsu in check.

Ginjo points out that Ichigo's spiritual pressure never troubled his human body until his Fullbring stirred, at which moment it gushed from the badge. Laying the scheme at the feet of Jushiro Ukitake, he argues that the two of them were both deceived. Uryu privately dreads that none of it may be false. As the doubt lands, Ichigo answers not with words but by setting his stance and calling out his Bankai.

Urahara stabilizes the injured and keeps Isshin from joining the battle. Ginjo delivers his account of the badge as a tool of surveillance and suppression, naming Ukitake as the architect. Rather than waver under the revelation, Ichigo responds by releasing his Bankai.

Part of Volume 54, Goodbye to Our Xcution, the chapter was drawn from Episode 365 of the anime, "Ichigo vs. Ginjo! The Secret of the Substitute Badge." The capitalized styling of the title hides the word "lie" within "believe," echoing Ginjo's manipulation.
