Gremmy's meteor plunges toward the replaced Seireitei, throwing both sides into alarm. Bazz-B demands to know what Gremmy has done, Renji stares upward in confusion, and Askin repeats that this is exactly why the Quincy should have stayed caged. A Shinigami's hope that the Shakonmaku barrier will vaporize the rock is dashed when it punches straight through, sending soldiers and Soldat alike fleeing. From Silbern, Haschwalth orders Yhwach guarded as the emperor watches gravely.

Atop the fort, Gremmy lays out the trap: he deliberately refuses to imagine Kenpachi killing him, because the meteor will fall regardless, leaving only himself alive amid the ruin. Kenpachi, grinning up at the doom above, tells him it is Gremmy who is now powerless and launches skyward to release his Shikai, Nozarashi.

Down on the ground, Yachiru remembers meeting Kenpachi as an infant, when he saw she did not fear his blade and recognized that she, like him, carried no name. Overhead, Kenpachi slices clean through the meteor's core, splitting it so the halves burst into countless fragments that shower the city. He comes to rest above Gremmy with Nozarashi on his shoulder, a huge war cleaver wrapped at the hilt and trailing a long red tassel.

Gremmy's meteor breaches the Shakonmaku and forces Shinigami and Quincy alike to flee. Gremmy explains he has avoided imagining his own death so the meteor falls no matter what happens to him. Kenpachi releases his Shikai, Nozarashi, for the first time and cuts the meteor in half, scattering it across the Seireitei. A flashback shows the infant Yachiru first meeting Kenpachi.
