Facing the risen Rose and Kensei, Byakuya braces as Hisagi drops down with the stolen sword, only for Kensei to floor the lieutenant, pick up the blade, and offer it back grip-first. Mayuri steps out behind the captain, pleased to try his so-called Corpse Unit, and meets Byakuya's demand for an explanation by claiming he rescued the two men rather than harming them.
A flashback lays out how. Mayuri had laced the Arrancar's fluids with his Postcognition Drug, so when their blood sprayed the fallen captains the compound took hold and cast them into the looping past.
