Yhwach argues that Ichigo has always fought on his behalf, taunting him for refusing to swear vengeance. Then an arrow strikes from an impossible direction, and Uryu Ishida steps into view at the enemy's side.
Above the shattered palace, Yhwach claims he never needed to force Ichigo Kurosaki's hand, since their wills are already bound by shared blood. Every battle Ichigo won after gaining his Shinigami powers, he insists, was groundwork for slaying the Soul King before his eyes. Yoruichi warns Ichigo to ignore the talk, but Yhwach presses on, declaring that he has always watched Ichigo fight for him.
Ichigo answers with a Getsuga Tensho and follows through the smoke with the larger blade of Zangetsu, which Yhwach turns aside with his wrist. When Ichigo repeats that he came only to stop the destruction of the three worlds, Yhwach sneers that being unwilling to vow to kill his mother's murderer marks Ichigo's weakness. Before Ichigo can answer, a Heilig Pfeil streaks in from outside the chamber and lodges in Yoruichi's back, and everyone but Yhwach turns to find Uryu Ishida taking aim at them.
Yoruichi's broken focus cracks the Sankotsu no Jufu barriers, which burst apart and lay the Soul King and Mimihagi bare. As Ichigo demands an explanation, Yhwach shoves past him toward the arm-god, and Yoruichi's Destructive Spheres almost reach him until Yhwach summons Pernida Parnkgjas, whose eyes flare as it wrenches her left arm into ruin. A shockwave then hurls Yoruichi off the palace's edge. Ichigo flashes behind Yhwach to strike, only for another of Uryu's arrows to force him to cut it down instead. Yhwach commends the archer and tears the shadowy Mimihagi from the sovereign, splitting the palace with a vast diagonal rift, while Uryu tells a stunned Ichigo not to stand in Yhwach's way.
Yhwach argues that Ichigo's whole path was shaped to serve him. Uryu Ishida openly sides with Yhwach, shooting Yoruichi in the back and repeatedly firing on Ichigo. Pernida cripples Yoruichi's arm and Yhwach knocks her from the palace, then rips Mimihagi away from the Soul King.
