Summary

The Greater Soul King Palace lists hard to one side, and Orihime Inoue, Yasutora Sado, and Ganju Shiba fight to keep their footing as Pernida Parnkgjas tumbles off the edge. Uryu Ishida plants himself between Yhwach and Ichigo Kurosaki, draws another arrow, and warns that any movement will draw his fire. When Ichigo advances, Uryu looses the shot, which Ichigo cleaves apart before asking whether his old friend understands why they came. Uryu answers that he already knows their purpose and simply refuses to allow it, unmoved even by the reminder that every world will die.

Claiming his loyalty lies with Yhwach because he is a Quincy, Uryu watches Gerard Valkyrie rise with Pernida in his grasp while Askin Nakk Le Vaar and Lille Barro close in around the others. Rather than accept their help, Uryu fires into the floor beneath Ichigo's group, splintering it and sending them plunging away. As Lille lines up a shot at the falling Ichigo, Uryu looses an arrow after him first, reasoning that killing them before the fall would rob the drop of its finality, which he judges to be Yhwach's true intent.

Gerard laughs and hails Uryu as one of the Schutzstaffel, and Uryu allows himself a smile. In the sovereign's chamber, Yhwach shreds the shadowy Mimihagi as it reaches to consume him, scorns it as far beneath his present power, and absorbs the arm and its ability into himself. The tremors return to the city below, alarming the Shinigami in Urahara's laboratory, as an eye-shaped mark spreads across half of Yhwach's face. Declaring that he will cap the Seireitei until he has finished devouring the Soul King, he fires a beam of darkness from his fingertip that erupts through the underside of the palace.
