Appearance

Standing tall at around 175 centimeters with a full figure, Himeno keeps her black hair cropped to neck length, smooth if a touch untidy. A dark patch covers her right eye, while her visible eye is a striking turquoise, and she typically dresses in a suit finished with a black tie. In earlier years her hair fell longer to her shoulders, her right eye sat behind bandages, and a sling supported her right arm, her frame slighter than it would later become.

Personality

As a superior to the rookies beneath her, Himeno is steady and worldly, carrying herself with an easy, upbeat manner and keeping her composure even as the Eternity Devil first closes in. She reads people well and bends the rules to get results, famously dangling a kiss to spur Denji onward, yet she is brisk and decisive in the field, putting down threats without hesitation and refusing to tolerate anything that endangers her subordinates. Beneath the cheer runs a deep streak of empathy, shown in her patience toward the grieving and her loyalty to those she works with.

That brightness masks a bleak outlook forged by watching partner after partner die in the line of duty. The grim certainty that hunters rarely live long drove her into chain-smoking as a crutch, and she even nudged Aki toward the habit on the logic that the job would kill him before the cigarettes could. She had also taken to heart her master's lesson that only hunters with a few screws loose ever truly succeed, since their unpredictability unnerves the devils they face.

History

Assigned to Aki Hayakawa through Kishibe, Himeno began as a teammate who simply did not want him dead, but over their long partnership she came to genuinely care for him, drawn to how cool and, above all, how ordinary he was. Her feelings for him sharpened her resentment of Makima, whose manipulative grip on Aki she openly despised. With the newer recruits she was warmer, teasing Kobeni Higashiyama and praising her as gifted, and she spoke fondly of Hirokazu Arai's drive even as she noted his thin skill.

Her power flowed from a pact with the Ghost Devil, sealed by permanently surrendering her right eye. In exchange she could call forth the devil's invisible, intangible right arm, mirroring her own movements to gouge deep wounds into enemies like the Eternity Devil. She was a capable hand-to-hand fighter as well, disarming and dropping Kobeni in a heartbeat.

Himeno's bond with Denji blossomed quickly, sealed by a promised first kiss that, once delivered drunk, ended with her vomiting into his mouth and earning her the nickname Barf Woman. The two later struck a playful pact to push Aki toward her while steering Denji toward Makima. Her life ended during the assassins' raid on Special Division 4, when she gave up her entire body to summon the Ghost Devil at full strength against Akane Sawatari. Even then, she spent her last reserves helping Denji pull his cord one final time.
