Appearance

In his ordinary guise, Miri stands at middling height, a young man whose messy black hair falls to the nape of his neck, with tired shadows ringing his blue eyes. Beneath the uniform of Fourth East High School he favors a drawstring hoodie, paired with dark trousers and white trainers; throughout the stretch when Makima ruled his mind, the Public Safety suit went on over that same hoodie. Classmates remark that his features sit somewhere between those of Denji and Haruka Iseumi.

His Hybrid state echoes the monstrous look of Denji and Katana Man. A pointed, angular metal visor stands in place of his head, and from it two longswords jut rearward like the ears of a rabbit or a set of horns, while his teeth turn sharp and ragged. More blades erupt from his arms. During his Public Safety days those arms bore cross-guards at the elbows, a detail that had vanished by the Academy Saga.

Personality

While Makima held his mind, Miri's genuine self stayed hidden, though he came across as someone hungry for attention and eager to win her approval. Freed after her death, he grows remorseful over the harm he caused and seeks Denji out in private, recognizing in him a fellow victim of Makima's control. He prizes his recovered free will above all and longs to befriend the man who liberated him. Even so, Fumiko Mifune notes that he stays easy to sway, swallowing the Church's conspiracy theories with little resistance; warned by the real Chainsaw Man that they are falsehoods, he concedes the point yet still maintains that the lives saved excuse the deception.

His devotion to Denji leaves him cold toward nearly everyone else. Transferring into Fourth East High School, he flatly declares no interest in friendship and writes off his classmates as garbage, begging Denji to shoo away the girls who keep approaching him. Among the four Weapons serving the Church, his conscience is the sharpest: he balks at the plan to butcher civilians as bait for Chainsaw Man and rejects the Whip Hybrid's claim that they are nothing but tools, insisting on his own humanity. Yet his resolve never holds. He still aids Barem, readies himself for the massacre at the mall, and urges Denji to vent his fury for the world's sake, too blind to the weight of his deeds to slip free of the others' influence.

History

Once an ordinary human from Kanagawa, Miri was merged with the Longsword Devil to become a Hybrid. By severing his right hand he exposes a blade within his arm and shifts into his transformed body, which carries strength, speed, and toughness enough to trade blows with the likes of Katana Man and Chainsaw Man himself. Like any Hybrid, he mends his injuries by drinking blood and regrows his entire frame, leaving him nearly impossible to kill; even decapitation or impalement cannot finish him, and so long as someone detaches his right hand, he returns intact.

Under Makima's command he served Public Safety's Tokyo Special Division 5, and in the Control Devil arc he clashed with the Chainsaw Devil as Sword Man. After Makima fell and his mind cleared, he later reappeared during the Academy Saga, enrolling at Fourth East High School and operating beneath Barem within the Chainsaw Man Church beside his fellow Weapon Humans.
