Spear Hybrid

In his human guise the Spear Hybrid is a tall figure with cropped blond hair and a trace of stubble along his jaw. Rectangular glasses frame a face that tends to wear a flat, frosty expression. His usual outfit pairs a long double-breasted coat over a sweater and collared shirt with dark trousers and shoes, though during his servitude to Makima he wore the regulation Public Safety hunter suit instead.

Drawing a spear from the back of his neck triggers his transformation, reshaping his head into the shape of a spearhead whose mouth splits open to bare large, jagged teeth. Setting him apart from most hybrids, a sheath of dark, metallic armor wraps his arms, matching the hardened surface of his head. In this state he conjures sharp spears at will, hurls them with pinpoint accuracy across vast distances, and fights with strength and speed enough to trade blows with the likes of Katana Man and Chainsaw Man. Blood mends his wounds, and short of being wholly consumed he is effectively unkillable, able to return in perfect condition whenever a spear is pulled from his spinal cord.

While Makima's brainwashing held, the Spear Hybrid's real self stayed hidden, and the little he showed amounted to a streak of competitiveness; he floated the idea that whichever of them killed Chainsaw Man first should earn a date with Makima. Once her grip broke, a far uglier nature came to the surface.

Acting on his own will, he proves cold-blooded and cruel, untroubled by the suffering of innocents. He commits fully to Barem's scheme of drawing Chainsaw Man out through mass murder, even smirking at the prospect of wringing screams from women and children before a planned slaughter. For all that viciousness, he is notably quiet, speaking far less often than the comrades surrounding him.

His origin lies in a merger with the Spear Devil at some earlier point, after which Makima seized and brainwashed him. She slots him into a freshly assembled Special Division 5, a squad of weapon hybrids put together for the sole purpose of bringing down the fully powered Chainsaw Devil. When Makima gives the word, the entire unit shifts into hybrid form and charges, only to be flung back the instant Chainsaw Man springs at them. The Spear Hybrid does manage to bury a thrown spear in his foe's chest after Reze hoists him skyward, yet he and the rest of the squad are ultimately torn apart once Chainsaw Man weathers their joint attempt to hurl him into space.

Makima revives the fallen hybrids and gathers them in a graveyard for a final reckoning against the disguised Pochita. There the Spear Hybrid runs his weapon through Pochita from behind after the latter downs Katana Man and Miri Sugo, but a spinning aerial slash cuts him down alongside Reze and the Whip Hybrid. Makima's own death frees him at last, restoring the man he had been before her control took hold.

Months on, he falls in with the Chainsaw Man Church beside Miri, Barem, and the Whip Hybrid, the four forming much of its upper leadership. On the day fixed for their massacre, he gathers with the other weapons at a food court and instructs them to concentrate on women and children for the loudest possible screaming, only for Quanxi to dismember the group before they can transform. Public Safety takes them into custody, yet the worldwide Fire Devil attacks let the weapons slip free. Near Denji's burning home, he and Miri seize Fumiko as a hostage to goad Denji into transforming. When Denji finally changes, the Spear Hybrid spears him from behind to taunt him further, a move that backfires badly: Denji bisects him and then eats away enough of his body to heal his own, leaving the hybrid unable to keep fighting.
