Chapter 194: Fun School Festival

Restless from his libido and unable to sleep, Denji slips out of bed ahead of Yoru, and though his finger drifts toward her nipple, the following moment shows him simply pulling the covers over her. A news broadcast he passes reports nine hundred dead in the previous night's fires with another 3,800 unaccounted for. Well aware of the danger Yoru poses, he warns Pochita that she is bound to betray him eventually, then lights the stove and fries up a heap of potstickers. When Yoru rouses, she finds him eating beside the dead ManMan chef, and he holds out a few dumplings to share.

Yoshida and Fumiko, stationed close to Fourth East High School, are pressing Fami to pick up assignments, since the staffing hole left by Denji's rampage has hit Public Safety hard. Fami turns them down, citing her seat on the committee arranging Tokyo Revival Day festivities. Her priorities infuriate Fumiko, and when Yoshida proposes sending a substitute in her stead, the Famine Devil still declines, noting that friends of hers sit on that committee. Fumiko snaps back that those friends will die anyway unless the Death Devil is dealt with. Rising to her feet, Fami explains that she guards humanity out of love for fresh experiences, new food, and new faces, adding that Asa and Denji make good company while Public Safety does not.

The quiet that follows breaks when two of Fami's friends show up and whisk her off, their festival meeting being held over karaoke. Fumiko wonders whether they ought to keep her from going, but Yoshida is still stuck on her jab about him being no fun. Elsewhere, Yoru amuses herself by blasting Tokyo's crumbling buildings with her finger gun, and just as Denji eggs her toward another target, Asa seizes back control and turns the finger on him. Meeting the frightened girl's stare, Denji merely remarks to Pochita that he saw this coming. The chapter falls under the War Devil arc and appears in Volume 21.
