Summary

Sharing an apartment with Aki, Denji quickly grates on him through his messiness and bathroom hogging. A report of a Fiend sends the pair out, and on the way Aki describes a Fiend as a Devil that has seized a dead human's body. Ordered to display his Devil power, Denji instead simply beheads the creature, saying his chainsaws look too painful and he wanted to spare it. Aki snaps that Fiends are still Devils undeserving of sympathy, recalling that Devils slaughtered his family and that he wants them to suffer. Denji replies he would gladly befriend any Devil he could, having no friends of his own, and Aki leaves the room.

Key Events

Alone, Denji admits the real reason he avoided his chainsaws was to keep blood off some porn magazines he had spotted. Reflecting that Aki still chases a dream while he already lives his, he senses something missing, wonders whether Makima has dreams of her own, and lands on a wish to touch breasts, realizing this once impossible goal is now within reach and declaring it his earnest ambition. Back at headquarters, Makima assigns him a partner for small jobs and warns that she is a Fiend. Power bursts in announcing herself, and although Denji questions whether Fiends can be Devil Hunters, one look at her chest settles the matter and he eagerly accepts the pairing.
