Personality

At Kami High, Hase is a nasty student who delights in tormenting his classmate Okarun, though he proves a coward, dropping the harassment the moment Momo fixes him with a hard stare. Like Aira early in the series, he wears a mask of confidence, arrogance, and swagger built on his old popularity with the girls, bold enough to flip two girls' hair and cut into their talk. His swollen ego pushed him to pick Okarun as his gym partner to show off, sure the boy was a weakling who would flatter him by comparison. When Okarun instead outshone him and stole his popularity, Hase curdled into a bitter figure given to violent fits of rage.

History

From the start Hase mocked Okarun's love of the occult, snatching his magazine and jeering that anyone who believes such dumb conspiracies should drop dead. Okarun took it silently, so Hase and his friends taunted him daily until Momo entered the classroom and shut them down with a single chilling look.

During the Kintama Hunt Saga he keeps a low profile: pelting Okarun with paper balls until Momo intervenes, sneaking into Kami High at night for a séance and fleeing in terror from Taro, and watching the transfer student Bamora learn Japanese from Okarun and Kinta.

His real turn comes in the Kozuka Knives Arc. Picked as Hase's gym partner, Okarun shatters his proud six-second sprint record and outperforms the whole class, leaving Hase stunned. A mysterious voice then tempts him to take revenge using the Asura knives to steal Okarun's hidden power. After being snubbed by girls drawn to Okarun, Hase cuts himself with the Asura and awakens Jumping Crone's power. He teams with the surviving Jet Booster Exosuit Kur alien, also tasked with stealing Okarun's abilities, and ambushes Okarun and Kinta at the gym. Their fight drags on; Hase, fixated on personal revenge, beats the alien savagely when she nearly kills Okarun, then battles the boys' merged Great Kinta robot. Mocking them throughout, he is finally crushed beneath their boosted dive and knocked out, his Crone power draining away as Okarun and Kinta celebrate. In the Typhoon Human Arc he wakes in a hospital bed, and in the Six Curses Arc the Dragon Knights recruit him, exploiting his grudge and his Jumping Crone power, and take him to the Super Amusement Park, the spot where Okarun's group happens to be.
