A drowning child reawakens Unji's grief over his dead younger brother, and the yokai Umbrella Boy, still wearing Futa's face, hands him an umbrella whose power lets him haul both Vega and the kid out of the river. The two men surface relieved to find each other breathing.
Preparing to head out, Unji catches sight of several kids tormenting a younger boy, kicking around the lunch his mother packed. He means to look away, yet a dead frog underfoot drags him back to memories of his own mother and the day she ended her life. When the meal is flung into the water below, it is Unji who turns to look, glimpsing the child plunge in to fetch it, an image that mirrors his brother's drowning. Vega leaps after the boy to pull him out.
Reaching the kid, Vega begins to lose consciousness beneath the surface. Alarmed for the officer, Unji races to the bank and there meets Umbrella Boy, the spirit who once wore his late brother's shape. The yokai lends out his umbrella; with its strength Unji lifts both Vega and the child clear of the water, and the two men are left thankful to see one another still alive.
Brooding over a bullied child and a dead frog, Unji clings to his conviction that the world is forever rotten. He sees the boy thrashing in the water after his bag, echoing his brother. Vega arrives, jumps in, and tells Unji to phone the fire brigade. Holding the kid above the surface as he himself sinks, Vega wishes him a longer life than his own daughter had. Futa, now a yokai, materializes before Unji and offers his umbrellas, and Unji pulls Vega and the boy out with no time to spare.
This Volume 18 entry, part of the Danmara Arc, traces the source of Unji's umbrella ability back to Futa's yokai form. It anchors the climax of his flashback in the moment grief fused with his power.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....
